Fish Tank Lights
As well as allowing you to see the contents
of your aquarium properly fish tank lights act as a stimulus
for life, both fish and plants.
Plants require the right amount of light to
photosynthesize. This action is beneficial to fishes as
it helps keep carbon dioxide levels down to a minimum. Always
use florescent rather than tungsten lighting, which provides
uneven illumination and excessive heat.
Common Mistake - Many people make the mistake
of lining the tank hood with metal cooking foil. The foil
actually blocks the ventilation holes through which unwanted
carbon dioxide and heat escape.
Some aquariums now come with lights mounted
in the hood. These are much easier to maintain as you don't
have to worry about lighting clips or the light falling
into the tank.
There is a wide variety of fish tank light
bulbs now available. Each bulb is focused towards creating
the best lighting for a certain type of fish or plant. You
need to judge which light is best for your tank with regard
to the fish and plants you have.
There is specific lighting for tropical and
marine tanks and they act very differently so make sure
you have the right light set up.
