Whether a Discus display tank needs any other fishes
at all should be carefully considered, because not too
many other species do well with Discus.
Angels will certainly not do, as these predatory eaters
snap up much of the food intended for the Discus and
also introduce parasites. If you really want to keep
other fishes in company with your Discus you should
concentrate on a school of Amazon tetras such as Glowlight
Tetras, Cardinal Tetras, Rummy-nose Tetras, Black Neon
Tetras, Ornate Tetras, Rosy Tetras, Serpae Tetras or
Neon Tetras.
As all these species are schooling fishes and are seen
at their best only in quantity, at least ten should
be kept together in a group. In large tanks, a pair
of Rams, which are of course particularly peaceful,
can accompany the Discus. The focus of the tank, however,
should always be the Discus themselves.
